Chippewa Secondary School students attended a special assembly entitled “Remembering the Fight for Freedome” this morning to honour the 90th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge.

The assembly was hosted by Mr. Boal’s senior Canadian History class and featured a multi-media presentation about this very important historical event. With slides, music and student speakers, the assembly focused on Canada’s war effort in general and the battle of Vimy Ridge in particular.

The entire school population attended the event which also included a moment of silence for the 3600 Canadian soldiers who lost their lives and are buried at Vimy Ridge. “It is important that we remember this event today”, stated Mr. Boal. “The battle at Vimy Ridge was one of Canada’s finest and most tragic war stories.”

Student were visibly moved during the assembly. The 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge falls on April 8, 2007.
