VIDEO: Chippa is the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year

'You go out and do things and you don't do it for recognition. You do it to do it. I mean, the recognition is wonderful...'

Dennis Chippa, known for his role in operating the Gathering Place and Warming Centre, has been named the 2024 Kiwanis Citizen of the Year (see video above).

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Kiwanis Club of Nipissing.

"You go out and do things and you don't do it for recognition. You do it to do it. I mean, the recognition is wonderful..." said Chippa, who has had a decades-long involvement in various local charities and finally received the honour after finishing in the running multiple times.

Recent honorees include Nancy Jacko and Gary Jodouin, both recognized posthumously last year, Brian Chute, Tom Hedican, and the curling organizing trio of Dave Bennett, Mark Brown and Rick Miller.

"We had a number of excellent nominations again this year and we are fortunate to have some really dedicated people in our community," said Kiwanis President Justin Wigelius.

This year's recognition dinner honouring Chippa will be held Thursday, May 23, at the Best Western. For more details, click here.
