Rapidly becoming one of the North Bay - Mattawa Conservation Authority's (NBMCA) most popular events, the NBMCA is pleased to once again offer its Valentine's Day Candlelight Walk on Saturday, February 14th, at 7:00pm. Singles, friends and loved ones alike can get their hearts beating a little faster this Valentine's Day with a guided snowshoe walk along the Laurentian Escarpment's candlelit trails. Following the walk, participants will warm up inside with a delicious chocolate and fruit fondue before taking in the unforgettable nighttime view of North Bay and surrounding area from the top of the NBMCA tower.

"Over 200 candles will be placed on the trails, creating a beautiful atmosphere" explains Dale D'Allaire, Naturalist, North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority. "The walk, combined with the chocolate fondue and tower tour, is a really unique way to celebrate Valentine's Day with friends, family or a loved one."

The cost of the event is $12.50 per person and snowshoes are supplied. While most people learn how to snowshoe in a matter of minutes, an introductory lesson for beginners will be offered. Alternatively, participants can choose to forego the snowshoes and simply walk along the trails instead. The length of the walk will be weather dependent and the entire event lasts approximately two to three hours.

Space is limited (tickets for the 2008 event quickly sold out) and reservations are required. The public is asked to contact the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority at (705) 474-5420 to make a reservation.

The NBMCA is also hosting a series of Saturday snowshoe hikes through the Laurentian Escarpment during the month of February. The guided snowshoe hikes start at 2:00 pm and cost $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children aged 6 to 12 years old. Participants can meet at 15 Janey Avenue and reservations are not required.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario and the NBMCA's 10 member municipalities. A non-profit organisation, the NBMCA works closely with the public to ensure the environmental health of the region's watershed. The NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities who are members of Conservation Ontario.
