The city of North Bay has approved $128,000 in funding to repair the showers and bathroom areas in the dressing rooms at Pete Palangio arena.

Mark King, the Chair of Community Services says the work will probably take about two months to complete.

A mould issue back in 2010 led to a closure of the dressing room facilities in Pete Palangio for well over a month.

King says the city doesn’t want deteriorating showers leading to more moisture problems in the dressing rooms.

“It’s one of those things, we had that moisture issue at Palangio about two years ago and this is just remedial work to make sure that we don’t have it happen again,” said King.

“It’s the cost of doing business basically, you have to maintain those facilities,” he added.

“That arena, we hope, will last another 10 years at least and this is one way of making it suitable for people’s use.”

The project will mean renovations to at least eight showers in the dressing rooms of the arena located on Wallace Road.
