A building that has a long history in North Bay saw its final day Tuesday.

It ended as a reptile pet store, but long-time residents will remember it in a number of forms.

We came up with, book store, bible and religious articles, hardware, flags.

Can you add to the list?

From readers:

  • Wes Cooke’s Hardware  and later Book Store was located at 52 Lakeshore Dr.
  • A Talentino Family lived in the late 1980s at 56 Lakeshore Dr.,
  • Red Dragon tattoo parlour
  • trading cards shop
  • Brooks tire storage
  • Rogers Jewellers original shop
  • Irene's New to You second hand shop
  • sports consignment store
  • West Ferris Legion original meeting place (at the hardware store)
  • bait and tackle shop in the 60's
  • gifts and fine china
  • Part of it was Roger's Jewellers, I believe while the other part was Cooke's Home Hardware and the house beside and the building beside that (going south) was Webb's Bakery, the Webb's living in the house. The bakery was the more recent storage buidling for the Brookes Tire and bessie that where the wine store is was a Ferris Rexall Drugs. This was the former Ferris "main st" before Amalgamation. The building at at the corner of Lakeshore and Charles St. was the Post Office.

And from Natalie Lafreniere Lamarche,

"Hi everyone, just a little correction on this article. Wes Cook Hardware was purchased by my parents (Lafreniere) in the 80's and we lived next door, then purchased the neighbors house. We moved into that new house and tore down the neighboring house to make room for the parking lot.

"In the 90's my Mom and Dad converted the Cook Hardware store to Lakeshore Books and Card. My brother worked at the Hardware Store and I worked at the book store during our teen years. We have a lot of childhood memories of this place. This is the last section of my Mom's book store. So sad to see it go."
