City crews are working to fix a road collapse at Worthington East and Sherbrooke.

Last night a sinkhole opened up around a trunk sewer main.

It was discovered by a paving crew from Pioneer doing a resurfacing with a "rotomill" as they laid down new asphalt.

Crews determined that one of the main trunk mains for the area had been compromised, possibly collapsed.

The flow was still good, so crews barricaded off the hazard and filled in the hole.

Today the crew will dig down about 20 feet to repair the pipe.

The streets between Wyld & Fisher, Sherbrooke St between First E. and McIntyre E. are fully closed for emergency repair of the road.

There is no through traffic in either direction.

It's estimated repairs will take two days.

The hole started out about four feet wide and about 15 feet deep.
