Brad Martin is now able to speak to his family after being unresponsive for some time.

After being unresponsive for over one week, as of this morning, Brad Martin was awake and speaking with his wife, Tess.

Martin's medical outlook has gone from sometimes bleak to markedly better over the course of the last week, continuing to send his family and extended family at Allmakes Auto Service Plus on a roller coaster of emotions.

According to the Allmakes Facebook page, after a urinary tract infection scare due to high sodium levels, doctors and nurses flushed Martin's system with fluids and placed him on antibiotics. There was hope that the sodium levels were due to a lack of fluids, rather than a problem with brain function.

As of this morning, the flush seems to have helped, and although tired, Martin was able to make a FaceTime call to his shop. He warned his employees jokingly that "he had his eye on them."

His family and friends are waiting for blood cultures to come back so that they know that the infection is healing.

Martin was injured in a motorcycle accident on Lakeshore Drive on Sept. 14. He has been hospitalized in Sudbury since the night of the accident, and his family and extended family have been embraced by the community as they continued to hold a vigil at Martin's bedside, while also spreading goodwill in the community with their own charitable gestures.

Said Martin's friend, Tyler Hewitt via Facebook, "We are all very pleased to hear him speak, my words can't express the proper emotion. Today is a great day."
