An important fundraising event for the PADDLE program in North Bay will be taking place once again on the shores of Trout Lake.

The "Up the Creek without a PADDLE" event will take place on Olmstead Beach on September 29 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Earlier this year, for the first time ever, PADDLE received vital funding that is being used to address the ever-growing wait list for The PADDLE Program.

However, PADDLE officials say despite the generous support, the need for donations to maintain PADDLE is as strong as ever.

The PADDLE Program (Providing Adults with Developmental Disabilities Lifelong Experiences) is a parent-driven initiative that received start-up pilot project funding from the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services.

"The adults we support do not have the same opportunities for collegiate education and will have to continuously pay for their lifelong learning experiences, which is why this program is so vital to our community," officials stated in a release.

PADDLE officials say their mission is a simple one.

"The PADDLE Program exists to provide unique learning and life experiences for adults with developmental disabilities, encompassing personal choices, mutual respect, acceptance, and community inclusion," the release continued.

"We believe in empowerment and advocacy for each person inspiring them to value their full potential and share their success."

They are still looking for more support for the upcoming event.

"We are looking for individuals or businesses for some friendly competition and fundraising opportunities," the release continued.

"In collaboration with the North Bay Canoe Club, we will send participants out onto Trout Lake in a Dragon Boat, without a paddle. You are then encouraged to raise funds for the PADDLE Program to "Buy" your paddle in order to return to shore. In the past, not every donor felt comfortable going out in the boats, and we understand that.  Collect your pledges and come down anyway."

Sellebration Productions Entertainment Services is again supporting the event by providing music on the Trout Lake Waterfront.
