University students get political

Nipissing University became the home to a new Young Liberal Association, as a founding meeting accepting the constitution and electing an executive took place on Friday afternoon.

Holly Garnett, a first year student at Nipissing University and the newly elected President of the Nipissing University Young Liberal Association stated: "We are very excited to have founded the only young political organization at Nipissing University . We feel strongly in the Liberal values and want to help convey the message to our fellow students.”

At a well-attended gathering at Nipissing University, students shared their ideas and questions with some veteran Liberal Party members and voted for their executive. In addition to President Holly Garnett, the first Nipissing University Young Liberals executive includes Vice President – Policy/Communication Erica Murray, Treasurer Michael Agnew and Membership/Recording Secretary Jamie Reid.

“It is always exciting when young people decide to get involved in the political process,” MPP Monique Smith said. “We welcome them to the Nipissing Liberal team and look forward to having them play an active roll in local politics.”

"Mahatma Ghandi once said "Be the change you want to see in the world". The Nipissing University Young Liberal Association has taken action by becoming a part of the decision making process" said MP Anthony Rota. "The Liberal Party will benefit greatly by having their voice influence the future direction of Canada . I am proud to be a part of this historic moment and look forward to working together, strengthening our commitment to a progressive and socially conscious Canada ."
