Workers in North Bay and across Northeastern Ontario have come together the support the North Bay Food Bank.

Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 175 gathered yesterday to present a cheque  to the Food Bank for $3,000, the third major donation in as many years.

"North Bay's union members care," says Richard Eberhardt, Union Representative for several hundred workers in the city. "UFCW Local 175 has made a commitment across Ontario to fight hunger. We hope these funds make a real difference in people's lives."

UFCW Local 175 & 633 is a province-wide union largely associated with grocery, food manufacturing, retail and hospitality workers, but which also represents those in local municipal, health, and not-for-profit sectors. The Local's executive board, made up of active workers, set aside $90,000 to support dozens of Food Banks at a time when hunger is on the rise.

“The North Bay Food is a local food bank that relies solely on the generosity and support of our community.  In the past 11 months, we have provided food hampers to over 3,800 adults and over 1,400 children.  We see a continuous increase in the need for our services," said the Food Bank's Executive Director Debbie Marson.
