Two dead in head-on transport collision that closed Highway 11 for 18 hours

The driver and the passenger of the eastbound transport died in the vehicle and are awaiting a post-mortem examination

Highway 11 between Hearst and Cochrane was reopened at 2:30 this morning after being closed for over 18 hours. No detour was available.

Police say two people died in the head-on collision between two transport trucks yesterday around 7 a.m.

Both lanes are now completely reopened.

Investigation revealed that one truck was eastbound and a second was westbound when the two collided. The driver and the passenger of the eastbound vehicle died in their vehicle and are awaiting a post-mortem examination.

One motorist wrote on the OPP Facebook page, "I'm in the lineup, roads are completely iced over and not a salt truck in sight all morning."

Another wrote," One transport hit trailer of another spilling mail all down the road."

The investigation is still on-going and further information will be released when it becomes available.

The OPP's Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, the OPP's Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team, and the Office of the Chief Coroner - Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are assisting with this investigation.
