Two days --- three drunk drivers

Police are concerned about drinking and driving as the OPP charged three people in two days. On Sunday at approximately 9:10 a.m., Mattawa OPP were conducting a RIDE check on Valois Drive in Mattawa.

On Sunday at approximately 9:10 a.m., Mattawa OPP were conducting a RIDE check on Valois Drive in Mattawa. 

After they checked the status of one driver, James Platt, age 42, of Ottawa, was charged with "Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood".

That same day at approximately 10 p.m., a North Bay OPP officer was westbound on Highway 17 in Bonfield Twp., when she noticed an all-terrain vehicle being driven on the highway in front of her. 

The ATV was stopped and, upon further investigation, the driver, Dawson Catalano, age 21, of Bonfield was charged with:

  • Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood
  • Driving While Ability Impaired, and
  • Driving While Under Suspension.

Then Monday at approximately 11:15 p.m., members of the North Bay OPP were called about an eastbound vehicle on Highway 17, which was crossing the centre line. The vehicle was found and stopped by police and, as a result of an investigation, Dwayne Beauvais, age 33, Sturgeon Falls, was charged with:

  • Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood, and
  • Driving While Ability Impaired.
