Tweedsmuir Park ranks 1st in the top 10 local news stories of 2010

It has been an exciting year in news and a poll by local news agencies puts the Tweedsmuir Park/green space issue in the top spot as the city’s Top News Story of the year. The story received four first place votes and a total 47 points in the poll.

The local media then placed the story of 31 mental health beds moving to Sudbury in second place with 41 points.

Following that the announcement that MPP Monique Smith not seeking re-election in 2011 and the Education Centre Learning Library being named after Mike Harris tied for third place. Both stories racked up 32 points in the media survey.

With 20 points the municipal election rounded out the top five stories. With 17 points Vic Fedeli not seeking a third term as mayor ranked that story in sixth in the annual poll followed by Sundridge native OPP Officer Vu Pham being shot and killed. Pham’s story received 15 points.

Taxes going up in North Bay and Callander received 6 points placing that story in eighth place and with 5 points each the Algonquin Avenue Beautification and the G8/G20 summits stories tied for 9th place.
