A good crowd tuned out to witness history in the making Saturday, March 18, 2007 as North Bay was crowned Kraft Hockeyville 2007.

In naming North Bay Hockeyville, officials noted that is was the commitment to community and hockey that made the city stand heads and shoulders above the others, and on Saturday the Hockeyville committee demonstrated once again giving back to the community is still key to the organisation.

Close to 100 people gathered at Memorial Gardens for an opportunity to have their moment with the Kraft Hockeyville Trophy in the Hall of Fame room.

With a donation of a non-perishable food item to the North Bay Food Bank hockey fans have their photo taken with the cup as well as enjoy a free skate.

"I think it's a great way to tie in hockeyville with Tom Hedican's amazing Coach4Food campaign which was a critical part of our Hockeyville bid submission,” says Chris Dawson Hockeyville bid chair.

“ I talked with Tom this week and he's thrilled that we are using Hockeyville to help out the local food bank.”

During the three week Christmas holiday season in 2006, Tom Hedican gathered more than 5,000 pounds of food through his Coach4food initiative.

Dawson says about 100 pounds of food was collected during the one-hour event Saturday afternoon and that they hope to bring the Hockeyville Trophy to other community events throughout the year.
