On Sunday the YMCA of North Bay wrapped up its annual Strong Kids Campaign with the inaugural Bay Elevator Trifunathon, raising funds to support children and families in the area.

YMCA Strong Kids is an annual fundraising campaign focused on raising much needed resources to support YMCA programs that give kids the opportunities they need to reach their full potential: to live healthier, happier lives today, and grow into productive adults in the future.

“We are most pleased with the response we have received for the Strong Kids program and we want to thank all those who have contributed. Together, we are providing opportunities for families and children that would not be otherwise available,” said Dave Saad, campaign co-chair in a news release.

In the past year, the YMCA of North Bay was able to welcome more than 1,700 members because of the Strong Kids Campaign: men, women and children who benefited from access to swim lessons, after school programs, child care, summer camp, organized sports and fitness classes. The target for this year’s campaign is $125,000; the organizing committee is quite confident that the target will be met.

The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign relies on the generosity of not only community donors, but staff as well. “Our staff really becomes engaged in the Strong Kids Campaign both through the giving of their time as well as financial support, “ says Nicole Bamford, campaign co-chair. “They see the end result of those who get to make use of the YMCA’s programs and services and the satisfaction that the opportunity to participate brings to them.”

While the Bay Elevator Trifunathon marked the official wrap up to this year’s campaign, there are still events planned throughout the year which will benefit YMCA Strong Kids, including the Child Care & Community Partners Children’s Art Auction on Saturday, June 11, 2016, the 24th Annual Tim Hortons YMCA Golf Classic on Monday, August 8, 2016 and 2nd Annual Ball Hockey Tournament to be held this Fall 2016.
