Transport slams into building in Mattawa (UPDATED)

OPP report one person injured

Freezing rain and snow made for treacherous driving conditions in the region last night and this morning.

There was a fine example of that in Mattawa where residents tell BayToday.ca about a bizarre accident just off Highway 17 where a transport trailer veered off the highway and ended up ramming into the side of an apartment complex across the street from Myrt's family restaurant.

The OPP report that one person was injured in the bizarre accident but by the looks of the damage, it is lucky that no one was killed.

OPP add that the apartment building was evacuated for a short time after the crash.

The driver, Hosena Brooks, age 42, from Woodstock, New Brunswick was charged with Careless Driving contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.
