OPP now say Highway 63 is open.

Mayor Al McDonald says on his Facebook page, "It is still early and developing but here is what we have. The derailment was believed to be 24 cars, West of Peninsula. We believe the cars to be empty. The fire department is on scene, ONR representatives. We have sent our engineer to the site.

OPP have closed Highway 63 because of a train derailment.

The closure is on  Highway 63 at Silver Lady Lane and Peninsula Road.

OPP say that at the request of the North Bay Police Service, the OPP have closed Highway 63 as a result of train derailment within the City of North Bay.

A detour is available for light traffic only at Four Mile Lake Road.

There is no timetable for reopening the highway.
