TP North Bay needs help to hit target as campaign gets ready to wrap up Saturday

'This year’s goal is 20,000 rolls of toilet paper. As of Tuesday night, the amount collected was 12,967. North Bay has always helped us, so we’re hoping they will do it again' Ellen Faulkner team leader

Saturday is the final big push for TP North Bay.

For the past six years, volunteers have set aside one month to collect toilet paper for distribution at food banks across the city.

Team leader Ellen Faulkner attended this week's City Council meeting to let the public know the campaign wraps up this weekend, and to remind councillors that their contribution will be matched by councillor Mark King.

“Mark King has said any councillors that purchased toilet paper, that he will match their donation. Right now, they’re at 216 rolls and I got some cheques and money today,” said Faulkner.

“I think we’re in a difficult economy right now,” said King.

“As DNSSAB (District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board) chair I see a lot of things and I know people are struggling. Ellen tries hard and I thought it was a good idea.”

Saturday is the final collection day.

“We will be at FreshCo from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Then on Monday we divide what we’ve collected between 12 food banks in the city. That includes church food banks. Nipissing University and Canadore College food banks are on the list also.”

This year’s goal is 20,000 rolls of toilet paper. As of Tuesday night, the amount collected was 12,967.

“North Bay has always helped us, so we’re hoping they will do it again,” said Faulkner.
