Tour de Trout take on Four Mile Bay fundraising for the YMCA

Tour de Trout is seeking volunteer kayakers and canoeists to help keep all of the swimmers safe and visible to boaters during this year’s fundraising event in support of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

Now in its fourth year, Tour de Trout brings together avid and enthusiastic swimmers who raise money by swimming the contour of Trout Lake and its major bays.

“This year, we will be doing 18 swims that will total 42 kilometers," said organizer Johanne Brousseau, a past YMCA Board Member. "The goal is to raise enough funds to get 15 kids into swimming lessons,”

Tour de Trout swimmers will be making a splash starting June 17 and the last swim will be on August 20. Swims will vary from 1.4 km to 3.5 km.

"We also offer participants the options to swim 1/2 distances. We would also appreciate the help of residents that live on Trout Lake. If you own a kayak or canoe and would be able to assist us as we swim by your area, we would greatly appreciate your help,” said Brousseau.

If you are available one of the evenings and can help please contact Chantal at 705-499-6525.

The YMCA Strong Kids campaign helps people of all ages by providing access and financial assistance to participate in YMCA programs and services. This means giving a family a place to get active with a Health and Fitness membership, helping a child learn to swim, providing a senior with the opportunity to stay fit and socially connect, or providing young people with the chance to experience the magic of YMCA Day Camp!

Last year, the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario provided $397,000 in financial assistance and helped families in need.
