Its clients usually drop pounds. But over the past few weeks Curves has been encouraging members to add hundreds of pounds… hundreds of pounds of food, to its annual food drive for the Salvation Army Food Bank.

The women’s fitness firm’s two North Bay locations just completed its 8th annual drive and members have brought in a staggering 3 tons of non-perishable foods!

Lakeshore Drive Curves assistant manager, Nancy Taylor says Curves supports a number of organizations in the city. “That’s what Curves is all about, giving back to the community.” She says the company also supports the Breast Cancer Dragon Boat races and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Pierrette Bellefeuille – or Pete as her friends call her – brought in the most food for the drive at the Lakeshore outlet. She managed to gather 325 pounds. But she says she’s not finished yet and is going for more. “400 pounds or nothing!” she laughed. Her efforts helped bring the Lakeshore outlet’s donation total to 2,800 pounds.

Bellefeuille is the third eldest of a family of nine. She says she gets involved in the food drive because she knows what it’s like to live with just the bare necessities.
“There’s a lot of families in need. I like to help. I’m a big supporter of the food bank.” she said.

Plus she says her father’s words have always inspired her to help others. “My father said what you give in the week comes back to you two times next week.”

The two Curves outlets will be donating a total of over 6,800 pounds of food or more than three tons. The Salvation Army is slated to pick up all the donated food today.
