Update: Thursday night Battalion game cancelled.

OHL announces postponed game between Barrie and North Bay

Update 6:30 p.m.

A source tells BayToday that the damage is not significant but cracks have appeared in the ceiling of the press box. Officials are meeting at this time to determine what further steps will be taken.

"Some cracks have developed in the drywall on some non-bearing walls of Memorial Gardens," said John Severino, city engineer, in a news release Thursday evening.

“Until the cause of the cracks can be confirmed it has been decided to close the facility to public use.

“A structural engineering firm has been engaged to evaluate the source of the cracking out of an abundance of caution.”

There is an urgency to resolve the problem. The Troops also have home games scheduled for this Sunday afternoon against the Petes, next Thursday and on March 17.

Meanwhile an update on West Ferris arena.

The Ontario Hockey League today announced that the regular season game scheduled to be played tonight, Thursday, March 7, between the Barrie Colts Hockey Club and the host North Bay Battalion Hockey Club, has been postponed due to a facility issue says Paul Krotz, Director, Communications.

The game will be rescheduled with a date still to be determined.

The cause is apparently linked to structural damage to the Memorial Gardens roof.
