The owner of Chez Michaud in Sturgeon Falls, a tobacco vendor, has been convicted under the Smoke Free Ontario Act of supplying tobacco to minors. This conviction is the result of charges laid by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.

On Friday, November 27, 2009, Mrs. Celine Anderson, operating as Chez Michaud, was found guilty in Provincial Offences Court of one count of supplying tobacco to a person who is less than 19 years old. Anderson was fined $3,000 plus applicable surcharges totaling $3,755. Ms. Anderson was given twelve months to pay.

It is an offence under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act to sell or supply tobacco to a person under 19 years old. Tobacco Enforcement Officers, with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, conduct regular enforcement checks of area tobacco vendors to ensure compliance with the Act.
