They're a little shy on details at the moment but Amelia Rising and the Disabled Adult and Youth (DAAY) Centre are gearing up for what they promise will be a don't miss event for girls graduating in May.

The fundraiser has both organisations collecting formal dresses and gowns of all colours, styles and sizes which will than be resold at great prices to girls in our community.

“It's a fundraising event where we are selling (formal) dresses in order to raise money for Amelia Rising and the DAAY Centre,” explains DAAY Centre Program Manager Andrea Jones.

“We are collecting dresses right now up until May 14th and then the event itself is on May 15th.”

Jones says all dresses will be priced under $100 and folks can look for price points according to quality, era and demand.

“That is something we will work on and hopefully get someone from a consignment shop in to help give us an idea.”

“We want to keep it reasonable.”

The event isn't solely focused on the dress the committee will be profiling other community organizations to help educate students on how to have a fun and safe celebration.

Jones says in order to make the event a true success they are appealing to the community to raid their closets.
