The tide turned on the Tweedsmuir Park development Monday night as the new city council defeated a motion (6 to 5) to allow re-zoning and five residential lots to be built on the parkland.
Mayor Al McDonald cast the tie breaking vote and for McDonald it sent a message that this was an important election issue and he stood behind his campaign promise.
During the municipal election McDonald campaigned to place a moratorium on parkland development and develop a long-term sustainable green strategy.
The ball fields will still be decommission as that motion was passed by the previous councill and still stands.
