Thrill for cadets as they meet parachute team and pilots

On Tuesday, June 12, at the 22 Wing Fitness and Wellness Centre, approximately 90 cadets had the chance to meet-and-greet with the CAF SkyHawks and CF-18 Demo Team. This year marks the eighth year the City of North Bay has hosted Armed Forces Day.

On Tuesday, leading up to Armed Forces Day 2018, members of the Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team, SkyHawks, and the CF-18 Demonstration Team spent some quality time with local Sea, Army, and Air Cadets.

Approximately 90 cadets met with members of the demonstration teams, getting autographs and selfies.

“It is a great experience to be able to meet the SkyHawks and the CF-18 Demonstration Team. It was an amazing opportunity that I will remember forever,” said Warrant Officer First Class Adrian Iserhoff, Air Cadet with 547 “Canuck” Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron

The Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team, The SkyHawks, is Canada’s only military parachute demonstration team. For over 40 years, it has represented Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces to over 75 million spectators worldwide under their signature Canadian flag parachutes.

“It is with great pride that we continue to showcase the professionalism, dedication and teamwork it takes to be part of Canada’s military especially to cadets, our future citizens,” explained Captain John Hart, Team Captain, Canadian Forces Parachute Team, SkyHawks.

Captain Stefan Porteous, born and raised in Comox, British Columbia, and a former Air Cadet with 386 ‘KOMOX’ Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, is the pilot for the 2018 CF-18 Demonstration Team.

“As a former Air Cadet I was absolutely thrilled to spend time meeting the local cadets in North Bay," he said. "Hopefully, we were able to inspire the next generation of pilots and technicians through our visit.”

The mission of the Cadet Program is to contribute to the development and preparation of youth for the transition to adulthood, enabling them to meet the challenges of modern society, through a dynamic, community-based program.
