Thief overwhelmed by clerk's service

The North Bay Police Service has arrested a suspected convenience store thief after the clerk he was allegdly robbing fought back and subdued him. Police said the incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m.
The North Bay Police Service has arrested a suspected convenience store thief after the clerk he was allegdly robbing fought back and subdued him.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday when a man walked into the Mac's
Convenience store in the 600 block of Main Street E.

The man is alleged to have been carrying a baseball bat and demanded money of the lone clerk. As the clerk was getting the cash, the robber attacked him.

But the clerk began to defend himself with a pipe and eventually subdued the robber.

Cst. Bruce Whitehead and other officers of the North Bay Police Service were called and attended, and took over the arrest by the clerk. The officers brought the robber to hospital where he began to yell at staff and
eventually was evicted. He was then brought to the police station where he now remains.

Robert Husbands, 28, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery, disguise with intent to commit a robbery, and causing a disturbance. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
