The break-out television hit ‘Dancing with the Stars’ has taken the world by storm and reignited people’s interest in Ballroom Dancing and that is proving to be a huge help Victim Services of Nipissing District (VCARS).

With the guidance and discipline of master dance teachers Mabel and Orlando Rosales, Derek Brown, Tara Lee Vaillancourt, Renee Claude Pitre-Traillefer and Michelle Webster six local celebrities Dr. Stephanie Brill, Dr. Scott Shulman, Constable Melodee Prevost (NBPS), Sergeant Noel Coulas (NBPS), Staff Sgt. Jeff Dagg (OPP) and Marc Lavigne, Principal, were whipped into ballroom condition for VCARS 2nd annual fundraising event 'Dancing with the Stars'.

After weeks of grueling practice that brought pains, strains and blisters the six couples left it all on the dance floor Saturday night at the Clarion Resort. They showed off their flips, dips and splits to guest judges Greg Estabrooks, Jocelyn Bell as well as the toughest judge of all the audience in hopes of taking home the coveted mirror ball trophy.

In the end Dr. Scott Shulman and his partner Tara Lee Vaillancourt’s hip hop number was the breakout performance of the evening winning the audience over and putting them in first place.

Staff Sgt. Jeff Dagg and his pro partner Michelle Webster took second spot with Marc Lavigne and pro partner Renee Claude Pitre-Traillefer placing third.

All proceeds from the event go to assisting victims of crime and tragic circumstances in North Bay, Mattawa and Sturgeon Falls.
