Village Media continues to expand its network of media outlets across Ontario with the launch of independent news site GuelphToday.com, located in Guelph, Ontario.

GuelphToday will bring locally-driven news in real time to Guelph and some of the outlying communities like Fergus, Eramosa and Aberfoyle

Readers will access breaking news on their computers, tablets and mobile phones, whenever they want it, wherever they are.

GuelphToday is part of the Village Media network, which operates some of the largest online news sites in the communities they serve.

The sites are driven by news and information that appeals to a highly engaged, loyal audience.

GuelphToday will offer breaking news, feature stories, editorials, and other content from the region. The most current news will be posted throughout the day, as well as national news provided by Canadian Press.

“GuelphToday is about providing ‘local’ news and information in real time,” said Jeff Elgie, CEO of Village Media. “We are proud to be extremely community-minded and cover all the important stories in your city. We are very excited to continue growing a successful business model, as we expand into Guelph. We have a great team in place and look forward to becoming an integrated part of the community’s daily news.”

The GuelphToday newsroom now includes Tony Saxon and Rob O’Flanagan, two top-notch journalists from the community.

Tony Saxon is most recently known as the Guelph Mercury's beat writer covering the Guelph Storm. Tony’s history as a journalist has been rich and varied over the past 20 years. He is an award-winning correspondent, columnist, reporter, feature writer and photographer, who has turned his talents not only to sports, but to a long list of subjects including politics and science. As a storyteller, Tony is considered “fearless.”

Rob O’Flanagan has been a newspaper reporter, photojournalist and columnist for more than twenty years. He has won numerous Ontario Newspaper Awards and a National Newspaper Award. He is the author of The Stories We Tell and The Blown Kiss Collection, two volumes of short fiction that began as a CBC Radio series in Northern Ontario. He is also a poet and visual artist. Raised on a farm in central Saskatchewan, he is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan. He lives in Guelph and is currently writing a novel.
