North Bay – The Nipissing Branch of the Canadian International Council is pleased to announce that on Wednesday January 18th it will be holding a discussion of “Development in Africa: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.”

Our guest, Major Ed Smith (ret), will discuss his experiences with development projects in South Sudan and Cameroon and the benefits of, and problems with, Canadian developmental assistance in Africa.

The talk takes place on Wednesday January 18, starting at 7:00 pm in room B200 (the Weaver Auditorium) at the Education Centre (Nipissing University/Canadore College).

Ed Smith is a retired major with the Canadian Armed Forces whose military service included postings with United Nations missions in South Sudan and elsewhere.

While serving with the military, he founded two non-governmental organisations, including North Bay-based International Children’s Awareness, focussed on development projects in Cameroon and South Sudan.

He has two decades of experience with water projects and community development projects in Africa.

This event is free and open to the public, and everyone is welcome!
