The Labour Market Group, along with Passport to Prosperity, Near North District School Board, Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board and Conseil Scolaire Catholique Fraco-Nord is pleased to announce the Amazing 'High Skills Major Business' Race. 12 teams of 2 from (4 teams per school) Algonquin Secondary School, Chippewa Secondary School, and St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary will race throughout North Bay, on Wednesday October 21, 2009, performing business tasks at various pit stops and be challenged with road blocks along the way. Teams will mimic the highly successful reality show the 'Amazing Race' but with a focus on business tasks.
Algonquin Secondary School, Chippewa Secondary School, and St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary, offer students the opportunity to gain a Specialist High Skills Major in Business studies. In order to receive a Specialist High Skills Major seal on a student's Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students must complete 2 business courses in grade 11, 2 business courses in grade 12 a 2 credit co-operative education credit in a business placement and business industry certification.
Passport to Prosperity is a province-wide campaign to increase employer awareness of and participation in school-work programs. The campaign is an employer-led recruitment effort to provide opportunities for students to explore career options and develop workplace skills and experience.

Louise Lowe, Project Coordinator of the Labour Market Group and Passport to Prosperity states, “We are thrilled to provide these Business students with the opportunity to experience various business sectors here in North Bay. The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Program provides students, such as the ones competing in this event, the opportunity to focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests”.
