Local grade 9 and 10 students had a day off of school Wednesday, but not out of the classroom as today was national ‘Take Our Kids to Work Day’.

The national program is a project of The Learning Partnership and has been in existence since 1994 with the Near North Board participating over the last 8 years. With over 1.5 million young Canadian students participating at 75,000 workplaces, the program is designed to help students experience a wide variety of job and career options.

Take Our Kids to Work Day also helps illustrate the importance of education, skills development and training while giving students the opportunity to experience the work world hands on.

Amy Winkworth and Kayla Estabrooks joined their dads Brian and Greg at Cogeco North Bay News today learning that the news business isn’t all ‘Glitz and Glam’.

Both girls said they had fun while learning and that they were glad they took part in the day.

“I learned to fix tapes when people mess up,” says Winkworth.

“I already knew some things about my dad’s job.”
