|The community is starting to rally around efforts to support a refugee family coming to North Bay.

Under the North Bay Syrian Refugee Resettlement Initiative, the North Bay and District Multicultural Centre expects its first family to arrive later this month.

The family is made up of a single mother and 9 children ranging in age from 2 to 16. It is anticipated that at least one more family will arrive in the new year.

In order to deal effectively and efficiently with the various aspects of the initiative, a number of committees have been struck to deal with donations, health care, finance, education, and housing.

The Donations Committee is setting up a system for collecting donations of household items and gently used clothing and footwear.

To make an offer to donate household items, go to the website at www.nbdonations.com. It has been set up so that offers of donations can be made on a room by room basis.

Due to the intensity of the expected response and storage restrictions, it will not be possible to accept all offers says a news release from the group.

"The Committee is however very grateful for what it expects to be an overwhelming show of kindness and generosity," it states.

To make a clothing and footwear donation, donors can take their items to any of the three North Bay fire stations between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Cash donations can be made by visiting the North Bay and District Multicultural Centre at 100 Main Street East, North Bay.
