Opposition is growing to the possibility that three local high schools could be combined into one superschool.

The 'Stop The Superschool' group, in association with the West Ferris Secondary School Alumni, will be gathering Monday morning at 7 a.m. at Lee Park, in advance of the Near North District School Board’s final public meeting in the five-month long Accommodation Review process.

“This is about all our children,” said Karen Matthews, a parent group member of the group. “I know too many kids will fall through the cracks with one superschool.”

The ‘Stop The Superschool’ group is made up of parents, former NNDSB career employees, community members and academics from North Bay and area. They came together with the single goal of stopping the secondary ‘superschool’ from becoming a reality.

The group is against the 2,247 student ‘superschool’ for grades 7 to 12, and wants to see a secondary school at each end of the city remain open.

“A superschool does not serve the best interest of the students and this community,” stated Garth Goodhew, retired local principal.

The group will be rallying on Lakeshore Drive, Monday morning from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and will reconvene their efforts prior to the public meeting at the West Ferris Trojan Complex and on the sidewalk adjacent to West Ferris Secondary School starting at 5:00 p.m.
