Summertime means increased need for blood

"Our target was 115 so we blew it out of the water."

Turnout has exceeded expectations at the latest blood donor clinic held yesterday and continuing on today.

"Yesterday was fantastic. It comes at a very crucial time because we need to collect 200,000 blood donations by July to help support hospital patients this summer," Joanne Drake, Territory Manager for Canadian Blood Services told BayToday at Thursday's clinic.

"Summer is a very challenging time of year for us. Regular donors are on vacation or participating in other activities so donating blood may not always be top of mind."

Yesterday 126 units of blood were collected at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park.

"Our target was 115 so we blew it out of the water, so thank you so much North Bay residents."

The clinic continues this afternoon from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

To try and up the donating, the organizations is looking to partner with businesses in the area.

HGS Canada Inc. has partnered with Canadian Blood Services for this clinic and committed to recruit new donors and fill appointments to help collect 240 donations.
