Highway # 533, between Mattawa and Highway # 63, is now opened to traffic. The highway was closed since last night.

Amongst the numerous calls that the North Bay OPP Cluster (North Bay, Mattawa and Powassan Detachments) responded to, included a death investigation.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. Monday evening (July 17th, 2006), police were dispatched to the north end of Algonquin Park near Kiosk where people were camping in an area between Kioshkokwi Lake and Mink Lake. It is confirmed that one person is deceased and another is seriously injured as a direct result of Monday’s storm. No names or other details are being release pending notification of next of kin.

Road Closure: Highway 533 between Mattawa and Highway 63 is closed until further notice. Numerous trees are down and crews are responding to them.

North Bay By-pass: Police are asking the public to travel safely through this area and treat all intersections as 4-way Stops.
