The North Bay Police Service officially introduced a pair of summer students in Brooklyn Ladouceur from St. Joseph-Scollard Hall and Neve Belanger, a student from West Ferris.

The students are part of the Youth In Policing Initiative (YIPI).

They have and will be offering help to civilian staff at police headquarters and they will conduct exit surveys with visitors to the police station.

“Some of the polling they are doing is specific to what’s going on in our front lobby so we are calling it an exit survey so having them out in the community for that portion may be a little bit difficult but we are going to try and engage the community in some other ways with them during events over the summer,” said Deputy Chief Shawn Devine.

Devine describes the survey as a very short process. It includes questions such as whether police reports for minor crimes can be done online instead of in person.

“Like any service we are trying to get feedback from the public on how we are doing our job,” said Devine.

“We worked with a professional company that put the survey together so it is basically less than two minutes, it’s a very quick survey.  If somebody wants to engage the students they have that opportunity to provide more information but it’s not an extensive, gruelling survey.”

Devine hopes information gathered from the survey will compliment the information they gathered from the recent Oracle poll along with what they hear from the community this fall during some town hall meetings about police service.

All that information will be used to help develop the North Bay Police Service’s new five year strategic plan.
