A new group of university students will get a first glimpse of their life at Nipissing University as the university welcomes more than 550 graduating high school students to New Student Orientation (NSO).

The university expects more than 1,600 people, including students and their family members, will be on campus over the course of NSO, which runs for three weeks, July 4, 6, 10, 12, 16 and 18, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

NSO provides incoming first-year students the opportunity to tour the campus and the city, meet with faculty, staff and current students, and choose their academic courses. The North Bay Ambassadors will also be leading bus tours of North Bay for interested students and their families on evenings prior to NSO days.

Each day of NSO is scheduled to accommodate different academic degree groupings, so that information about certain degree programs can be directed specifically to interested students. The smaller groupings also allow students to meet their peers who will be sitting beside them in classes come September.

Students attending the sessions will also be able to meet one-on-one with professors while registering for courses. Allowing for meaningful interaction between students and their professors is a key component of the orientation sessions and is often mentioned in student surveys as something that Nipissing excels at in all years of study.

NSO participants will also get an introduction to the student services department and the finance department. As well, information sessions will be held for parents and incoming students so that university staff and current students can answer any questions about the school and what to expect in first year.
