It was hard not to notice the bright shirts, as literally dozens of first year Nipissing Students took part in the final act of Frosh Week activities, Shinerama for Cystic Fibrosis.

Students took to the streets, stores and parking lots at businesses all over the area, including Powassan and Sturgeon Falls, to raise money through donations.

Frosh Leader Melissa Minor ensures face painting goes just right.

At Sobeys parking lot, Frosh leader Melissa Minor reflected on her week with her new friends.

“My week has been stellar. The kids we’ve had this year are super energetic. It’s been really fun just getting to know them and getting to hang out with them. “

Frosh had set up not only a barbecue but a band in the parking lot to entertain, while juggler Matthew Sullivan showed off his talent, which he’s only been doing for a year.

Matthew Sullivan juggles for the cause.

“It was my New Year's resolution this year. My dad was in the unicycle juggling club in high school. Isn’t that cool? There were two people in it.”

“It’s a nice little thing to show off and entertain people.”

Over at No Frills on McKeown, Frosh were also involved in face-painting, music and general excitement, trying to raise money for the cause.

No Frills on McKeown was another busy Shinerama location.

The downtown was full, as Frosh, joined by members of the Lady Lakers hockey team, took part in a car wash in the Toronto Dominion bank’s parking lot, and crews were on hand to ensure no one missed the chance.

Shinerama car wash at Toronto Dominion parking lot was another place to be.

Lady Lakers joined in to ensure everyone knew where the car wash was being held.

Minor says this year’s Shinerama, no matter where it was held, was special, and personal for many of the leaders.

“It’s really great to have a community where we can all separate ourselves and be able to collect money for such a worthy cause. We have one of our Froshies this year that has Cystic Fibrosis, so it hits us really close to home this year. It’s fun to have my Froshies pay it forward and give something to the community of North Bay before they spend their next eight months here.”

It was a fun way to wrap up a fun week for the first year students, while also giving them an introduction to the city, and the university. Next week? The students start classes.
