The annual Explore the Trades event is underway this week in North Bay.

Very much a community event, the advisory committee, lead by Yes! Employment Services, consists of representatives from all four school boards Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)/Programme d’apprentissage pour les jeunes de l’Ontario (PAJO), Canadore College, College Boréal, District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board, Labour Market Group, Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities Apprenticeship Division, Modern College of Hairstyling & Esthetics, Nbissing Secondary School, Nipissing First Nation Employment Unit and The Academy of Fine Sewing & Design.

The growing demand for skilled trades presents a great number of career opportunities for the people of northern Ontario and can offer a promising future. The Explore the Trades week of events will bring together employers, youth, job seekers looking for employment in the trades, educators and service providers to share information about the trades.

The public is invited to attend any of the following events this week:

Wednesday, April 14th

Industry Tour - A tour of the construction site for the new hospital, Voyageur Airways and Fabrene for selected teachers and young people to enhance their knowledge of the exhibited trades.

Thursday, April 15th
Employer Breakfast
Holiday Inn Express
7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

Employers are invited to learn the advantages of hiring apprentices and obtain answers to their questions regarding apprenticeships.

May – Date to be determined
Construction Project - Secondary school students will build a gazebo at One Kids Place, once the ground is sufficiently thawed.
