MNR News Release

********************

Micheline Finley, a bear technician for the Ministry of Natural Resources North Bay District office, was heading into work this morning when she noticed a Blanding’s Turtle (which is on the Species at Risk list) strutting his stuff across Wallace Road near Circle Lake and the Pete Pelangio Arena - right during the morning rush hour.
Micheline stopped to pick him up and brought the turtle to the office for proper identification and a photo shoot and then returned the turtle to Circle Lake. Hopefully this turtle decides to stay put instead of playing in rush hour traffic!

There have been over a dozen Blanding’s Turtle sightings across the district ever since the MNR North Bay District launched its species at risk reporting campaign. Public reporting of all species at risk has increased dramatically with the campaign launch and has surfaced many positive leads.

The MNR would like to thank the public and encourages the continuance of Species at Risk reporting.

**For a complete list of species at risk along with images and tips on how to identify them, please visit:

If the public sees any of the species on the status list, they are being asked to collect the following basic information: species, date, details, exact location, and pictures if possible.

Once the data is collected, they are encouraged to forward it along with their personal contact information to:

Steve Belfry, Resource Management Technical Specialist - Species at Risk Team Lead

by e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone at (705) 475-5512.
