Staying Safe In A Wired World

Rob Nickel, a former Ontario Provincial Police officer with the Crime Unit and author of “Staying Safe in a Wired World”, appeared on the popular Doctor Phil show Monday. Nickel demonstrated how fast a pedophile can hook up with a child online and the need for parents to be involved in their child’s safety while on the net.

Nickel will be in North Bay Thursday night as the keynote speaker for the annual Carousel Evening at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School. The evening is open to the public but seating is limited.

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board’s Special Education Advisory Committee invites you to its annual Carousel Evening on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School.
The event, which focuses on special education, will feature many workshops and cyber-safety expert Rob Nickel as its keynote speaker. Nickel, author of “Staying Safe in a Wired World”, can be seen on the Dr. Phil Show as a guest expert on May 22, 2006.

The Carousel Evening will begin with Nickel’s keynote address followed by various workshops and presentations suitable for parents, teachers, educational assistants and anyone interested in special education.

Workshops will include the following: Make and Take Visual Supports, Adaptive Technology, Infant Development, Internet Safety, Bullying – Secondary perspectives, Organizational Strategies, Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism - Social Skills for High Functioning ASD Students, Prevention & Intervention of Self-Harm.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and workshops will run until 9:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and attendance is free. The event will feature door prizes donated by Creative Learning and Gullivers.
