The Nipissing University Student Political Involvement Network (SPIN), in partnership with the Nipissing Branch of the Canadian International Council (CIC) and the North Bay Branch of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), is pleased to be welcoming Member of Parliament Glen Pearson to Nipissing Univeristy

On Monday, February 8th, 2010 from 7:00-9:00pm in room H102 at Nipissing University, Mr. Pearson will be speaking about his experiences in human rights and development work, particularly in the Sudan, and how it has affected his views of politics here in Canada. The talk is free and open to the public and will be followed by a small reception.

Glen Pearson was first elected as Member of Parliament for London North Centre on November 27, 2006. He presently serves as Critic for International Cooperation.

Prior to entering politics, Mr. Pearson was perhaps best known as the volunteer director of the London Food Bank. In its 20 years of operation the Food Bank has fed thousands of local individuals and families and has been a driving force in the attempt to end child poverty in Canada.

In 1998, along with his wife Jane Roy, Mr. Pearson began human rights and development work in Sudan. This work has included building schools and infrastructure, fighting modern day slavery, community development and supporting local enterprises as they enter into the competitive world market system.

He is also the author of two books: A Path Between Two Mothers and Responsibility for Neglect.
