Four generations of the Brown Family have been members of the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in North Bay.

With the unveiling of a commemorative plaque from the North Bay Municipal Heritage Committee and a special prayer by Marty Brown the Sons of Jacob Synagogue joined a select group of historical buildings in the city Tuesday.

Herb Brown, whose family has had four generations as members of the Synagogue in the past 80 years, notes that as the oldest Synagogue north of Toronto the Sons of Jacob has not only served at a place of worship for the Jewish community but also as a place for education and a Jewish community centre of sorts.

The North Bay's Municipal Heritage Committee serves as an advocate for architectural conservation while working closely with municipal council and various municipal departments in order to make their heritage conservation program a success.
