The homeless need proper footwear as they wander the streets day in and day out and that's why the Compassionate Committee for the Homeless in North Bay has stepped in to help.

The committee asked the public to donate hats, scarves, mitts, thermal socks, and boots.

“Once again, we had a great outpouring of kindness from the community!” stated Chairperson Leah Pierce. “Organizations like The Aids Committee of North Bay, Healthy Community Ambassador Program, Open Arms Café, Boots on the Ground and Hope Awaits Ministries Men’s Shelter were very excited and thankful to receive the brand-new mitts, thermal socks, and boots to clothe the homeless, including the Indigenous homeless, in the frigid winter weather.”

Five trunks were filled with hats, mitts, scarves, and thermal socks, and 60 pairs of brand-new winter boots were donated to the homeless. In addition, the committee received coats, blankets, and warm clothing that were also donated to the homeless.

True North Chevrolet gave $500 and individuals donated essential items and money during the drop-off days.

The Compassionate Committee for the Homeless in North Bay was created in March 2021, and based on research conducted, the Soles for Souls campaign was born.

“With eight churches involved, and 17 volunteers through faith, service, and social justice, we are addressing the urgent needs of the homeless and are engaging with all levels of government to ensure that homelessness is front and centre in the political arena,” stated Pierce.

The committee is already making plans for the Backpacks of Love summer campaign for the homeless,

The committee is made up of the faithful from churches primarily in North Bay’s downtown, who have joined together to address the immediate needs of the homeless.
