Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for West Nipissing - French River and a watch for North Bay, Powassan and Mattawa.

Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

Snow squalls from Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are moving north as winds move back to  the southwest.

Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm per 12 hours will be possible under the most intense snow squall bands, which are expected to affect areas extending from Killarney towards French River, and remain south of the city of Sudbury until this evening when they are forecast to move further north.

In addition, strong and gusty winds will reduce visibilitites to near zero at times in blowing snow.

The squalls are expected to move out of the regions Friday morning with a cold frontal passage.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Snow Squall Warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.

Meanwhile a snow squall watch in effect for North Bay, Powassan and Mattawa.

You should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions.
