Ontario Provincial Police, Almaguin Highlands detachment, advise that on Jan. 16, at 2 p.m., they responded to a snowmobile accident on a trail, east of Sundridge.

The accident involved a single snow machine with only one occupant at the time of the accident.
The driver was pronounced dead at hospital. Speed and alcohol are not considered as factors involving this accident.

Police said a group of six snowmobilers were on a trail, travelling at low speeds, when a snowmobiler came around a corner and found the machine in front of him was off to the side.

Following a preliminary investigation, police believe the driver suffered a heart attack or other medical malady that caused his death that was not related to the snowmobile. An autopsy will be conducted in North Bay.

The victim, who is from Germany, has not been identified pending next-of-kin notification.
