Smoke Clears Human Resources Building

There were tense moments at Canada Place plaza on Stockdale Road Friday afternoon as the building and retail stores evacuated after reports of smoke filling the building.

The North Bay Fire Department responded to the call at the Human Resources building around 3pm where they discovered smoke in the tanning salon. Fire crews completed the evacuation of the premises while assessing the situation and identified the source of smoke in the building.

Platoon Chief Brian Hunt informed BayToday that the hydro in the tanning salon went to a single phase which was drawing a great deal of power and ‘things were getting a little warm’.

Hunt also verified that North Bay Hydro was on the scene and had stabilised the situation.

Retailers returned to business as usual at about 3:30pm.
