Smashed bag of chips leads to assault charges

On the 5th Jan at 9:30AM North Bay Police responded to a disturbance at a Lakeshore Dr business resulting in the arrest of a 58 yr old man.

It was alleged that the man had gone to the cashier and requested that money be prepaid to him from a prepaid credit card. When advised that this cannot be done he became irate and started swearing. When told to leave he smashed a bag of chips, kicked the automatic door making it inoperable, grabbed a snow scraper and was leaving with it. The cashier confronted him and was punched in the face. Another customer restrained the man and calmed him down until police arrived.

Donald Gelinas of No Fixed Address has been charged with Mischief, Attempt Theft and Assault. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
