Following a formal resolution by Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord at its regular April meeting, West Nipissing’s Catholic French language secondary school
will be known as 'École secondaire catholique Franco‐Cité'. By adding the word 'catholique' to the name of the school, trustees want to draw attention to the distinctive mission of École secondaire catholique Franco‐Cité.

"Catholic schools draw their raison d’être in the Christian faith as taught by the Catholic Church. They teach the knowledge, skills and attitudes associated with various curricula from a faithbased perspective. The school’s new name highlights this fact," says Cynthia Roveda, Director of Education. “The school will pursue its tradition of excellence in both its curricular and extracurricular activities while underscoring the distinctive mission that it took on in 1985, the year Catholic boards were granted the same rights and privileges as public boards.”

Members of the community are invited to use this new name in their communications regarding the school.

Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord provides Catholic French language education to students of diverse cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds in thirteen elementary and three secondary schools situated in Astorville, Bonfield, Mattawa, North Bay, River Valley, Sturgeon Falls,Verner and Thorne.
