Kendall White's active role on St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School's Green Team has paid off. The Grade 11 student has been selected as one of 80 students across the world to participate in Students on Ice, Arctic Expedition, a journey to Iceland, Greenland, Labrador and Nunavut, where she will learn and see, first-hand, the effects of climate change.

Kendall's community, Temagami First Nation, is hosting a string of fundraisers this month to help her come up with the $8,900 she needs to participate.

"I've always been drawn to the Artic, for as long as I can remember, actually," she said.

"This is not only going to be a really great experience in terms of learning about climate change, but I know it will help me discover a lot about myself and what I want to do after I graduate."

Kendall flies to Iceland on July 23. To make a donation, contact teachers Matt Brunton and Terry Dubroy at 705-494-8600. For more information on Students on Ice, Arctic Expedition, visit http://www.studentsonice.com
